The inspirations for Between Shadow and Soul have been present all my life. Much of the film is drawn from my family history and real events. Many of the characters, especially the three wives, Ha, Xuan and May, are inspired by the women surrounding me during childhood. In addition, I am interested in the subject of the feminine voice and raising awareness about the problem of child-marriages since this is still a prevalent practice in many parts of the world today.
